Because she inherited the BRCA1 gene, a variant that increases the odds of being diagnosed with breast cancer by 72%, she also had a mastectomy. Chrissy has been cancer-free since Jan. 2023.
Mary Joe Fernandez is also a breast cancer survivor. Having won multiple Grand Slam doubles titles along with two Olympic Gold medals, her battle began after a routine mammogram discovered a lump in 2017. She successfully completed treatment in New York and now calls matches from the sidelines for ESPN Network.
