Nike's Sustainable Products

Nike has been working towards a more sustainable future. Since the start of their sustainability goals, they have created many products containing recycled material. They also use more renewable energy as well as less freshwater. Their mission statement for their sustainability goals is: "Move to zero is Nike's journey toward zero carbon and zero waste to help protect the future of the sport." And not only are they protecting the future of the sport but they are helping to make the world a better place! They have resolved not to just wait for a solution but to "take action together."

Nike's Move to ZeroNike's move to Zero

2015 and 2020 are the years where Nike made 5-year goals for the future. In 2015 goals were made to reduce manufacturing waste down to 0%. They also had the goal to reduce fresh water usage by 20% and to switch over to 100% renewable energy. In 2020 Nike accomplished these goals with 0.1% in manufacturing waste, 30% freshwater reduction, and 100% renewable energy for facilities in the United States and Canada. Today they are working to achieve new goals that were set in 2020. One of their goals is a 70% reduction in GHG emissions in owned and operated facilities. Another goal is to have 10x the amount of finished product waste recycled, refurbished, or donated. More and more of their apparel wears the badge of Nike's Move to Zero. When making these goals they have partnered with researchers from Climate Impact Lab so their goals can make the most impact on the environment. Climate change drastically affects multiple sports and athletes around the world. So, Nike is striving to do their part to protect the future of multiple sports and athletes alike.

Melbourne Collection

During the 2022 Australian Open we saw some new styles from Nike that were taking the court by storm. These new pieces are a part of Nike's Move to Zero and feature some innovative color-blocking designs. Allthe items in this collection have an abstract, artistic feel and offer our favorite technologies that we know and love like the moisture-wicking Dri-FIT technology. This collection is inspired by the iconic Windrunner with its asymmetrical stripes and seams. All the apparel in this collection is made with at least 50% recycled materials. In this collection, you can find the Team Court Tennis Dress, Top, Polo, Shorts, Skort, and Tank. These pieces can be mixed and matched with each other or your favorite pieces from your tennis wardrobe.

Not only was Nike Moving to Zero during the Australian Open but they also are moving to zero with their spring apparel. There are also other items from their spring apparel line that are a part of their Move to Zero and are made with sustainable materials. One of the pieces from the line is the Victory Print Tennis Tank. This tennis tank sports a geometric pattern with a stylish cut out in the back to provide breathability. It is also made with 89% recycled polyester. Another piece from the line is their Victory Straight Print Tennis Skort which also has a fun geometric pattern to match with the Victory Print Tank and is made up of at least 75% recycled material.
